Fresh off the needles

Welcome to my wardrobe, new chunky oversized sweater! I just finished knitting this guy over the weekend. This pattern is called 'Ranch' and was designed by the wonderful Martin Storey. I used my favorite bulky yarn, Rowan Big Wool in color 17/Smoky. It's one of those colors that sometimes looks gray and sometimes looks kind of navy. I love it.

I have a weird tendency to accidentally knit things that are a little bit too large for me, and I made this in a size medium. The sleeves are pretty long and the fit is definitely loose. I love big comfy sweaters, so I'm cool with it ... but I can't help thinking about ripping back and knitting a small instead. We will see.

I absolutely love this sweater and pattern in every way; the fit and shaping is really well done. I'm just wondering if I'd wear it more if it was a size smaller. It's such a fast knit that I know I could re-knit it relatively quickly!

(What do you think? Leave it as-is or re-knit?)

Also ... photo creds go to Lotus. Isn't she a great photographer? I think she's pretty great. :)

    1. Oh thanks, girl! It's hard to start over on a sweater that's 100% done. (But I've done it before ... ) Sleeping on it!

  2. I like it bigger like that, but if I owned it I'd wear it more if it fit a bit snugger. I'm betting even in a size small you'd have a slightly chunky sweater, unless the numbers are super different.

    1. So true! I think I could even knit the XS and it wouldn't be tight whatsoever. Hmmm. ;)

  3. I think it looks great as is, just wearing it with skinny pants (as you are). I think the texture is so good in an oversized sweater and LOVE that color! And great job Lotus on the photos!

  4. I love it! Oversized sweaters are my favorite for rainy or snowy days. I think it's because my hands get cold-I love that I can sort of hide them in long sleeves. But when it's time to wash the dishes or something, those same sleeves drive me crazy :)

  7. Keep it oversized! It's so cute that way, and you can hide Bo in there ;) !!!

  8. I'd keep the big one, and whip up a smaller one in a different color.

  9. I purposely make my sweaters bigger than what they should be. Makes me feel like I'm wearing my husband sweater, especially if I dab on some of his cologne on it ! ;)
I like Terri Eastvold Markle's suggestion, whip up another one in the smaller size!

  10. I love the oversized sweater on you with leggings or skinny jeans. I say keep it and knit a small one in a stand out color.

  12. I would wear it more in the size you've got it. My worry with sizing is if you go a size smaller (esp. if you're investing time into knitting it), it'll be too small. Keep it. :)
